What you need

Your ITS INCOM AI account. No code.

1. Open the Studio

Sign in at my.ai.itsincom.org and open Studio in the menu at the top, or go straight to my.ai.itsincom.org/dashboard/studio. The first tab, Voice, is already open.

2. Write a line and choose a voice

In The text to read, write what your character says:

Welcome to the Black Cat, traveller! A room is five silver coins a night.

Choose the Voice. There are six, each made for one language:

Write the text in the language of the voice: an English voice reads an Italian text with English pronunciation.

Click Read it aloud. After a moment the player appears and the line plays. Click Download the MP3 to save it.

Not happy with it? Click Read it aloud again: every take comes out a little different. The new take replaces the old one on the page, so download a take you like before you try another.

3. A scene with three voices

The Studio reads one text with one voice. For a dialogue, make one file per line, each with the voice of its character. The Studio names every download after its voice, like voice-amy.mp3: rename the files in order as you download them.

File Character Voice Line
01-innkeeper.mp3 Innkeeper Amy Welcome to the Black Cat, traveller! A room is five silver coins a night.
02-traveller.mp3 Traveller Ryan Five coins? On the road they told me three.
03-innkeeper.mp3 Innkeeper Amy On the road there is no fire and no soup. Five.
04-bard.mp3 Bard Siwis Approchez, approchez ! Ce soir, je vous chante la ballade du dragon.

The bard comes from France, so a French voice reads her line in French: with only two English voices, a third language is a way to give a scene a third character.

To hear the scene as one file, put the MP3s one after the other: drop them in order on the timeline of a video editor, or open them in Audacity, which is free, and line them up on one track. Leave half a second between the lines.
